Where does it come from?

The origins of Lorem Ipsum are not as random as commonly thought. Dating back over 2000 years to 45 BC, it finds its roots in a piece of classical Latin literature known as “de Finibus Bonorum et Malorum” (The Extremes of Good and Evil) by Cicero. Richard McClintock, a Latin professor at Hampden-Sydney College in Virginia, traced Lorem Ipsum to passages 1.10.32 and 1.10.33 of this work, where the Latin word “consectetur” was identified from which the text derives. Cicero’s book, a renowned treatise on ethics during the Renaissance era, has left an indelible mark on textual placeholders. The familiar opening line of Lorem Ipsum, “Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet..”, echoes directly from Cicero’s writings in section 1.10.32.
